The Black Boy, Old Headington

Abigail Rose and Chris Bentham 21 September 2008

copyright 2008 oxfordprospect.co.uk e-democracy.org oxford Abigail RoseChris Bentham and Abigail Rose will be taking over The Black Boy, Old Headington, on the 01/10/08. This is an exciting new venture for the pair who have an excellent catering background working with such mentors as Raymond Blanc (Chris Bentham: 9 years, Abigail Rose: 4 years) and Paul Heathcote (Abigail Rose 3 years).

The business partners have just finished setting up a brasserie and bar in Oxford (The High Table Brasserie) and are moving on to fulfil their ambition to provide excellent food at great prices (the  Ala Carte is to be priced under £10.00) with the same high standard found in many fine dining establishments, yet a relaxed, unobtrusive service.

Activities planned

  1.  Jazz nights every Thursday.

  2. Quiz nights to be confirmed

  3. Cookery School

The Sunday Morning Children’s Cookery School (every Sunday from 10am until 11am).

The children’s cookery school will be aimed at two different age ranges; 4-8 years old  and 9-12 years old, with great, yet simple recipes which can involve all the family.

Abigail and Chris are great advocates of children learning to cook, and hopefully enjoy cooking, from a very early age and as they progress, about the provenance of food,  how it gets to your plate and more simply, the enjoyment of eating and sharing food you have made!

Abigail’s son, Henry, is three and a half and makes a cracking  pizza, muffins, chocolates and ravioli (with a lot of help for the hot bits!) All children will receive a recipe card pertinent to the recipe they have made, with an extra one to try at home on the reverse.

Classes will be limited to six children at each class in order to enable a positive learning experience. Parents will have to stay with their children but are welcome to relax with a coffee and pastries.

 Christmas menu

The Christmas menu will be available from 01/12/08 to 24/12/08 and will be priced at £19.95 for three courses.
