Getting to Oxford by Bus, Train and Plane

Oxford via London's St. Pancras Station. is no more than four hours Paris, Lille or Brussels by Eurostar high speed train.

Much of Holland, France, Belgium and Germany and Switzerland is no more than eight hours by European high speed_rail services from Oxford. The Eurostar terminal is now at London’s St. Pancras Station.

  1. To reach Oxford from London by express coach and by express train.

  2. You can reach Oxford via London's airports at Heathrow and Gatwick using direct express bus services. There are direct coach services from Stansted Airport and  regular train_services from Birmingham Airport to Oxford.

  3. For domestic visitors to Oxford, the city is well served by fast and regular domestic_train_services to most of the UK.

  4. Oxford has a small local airport open to private planes and their is a limited scheduled service to Geneva, Newcastle, Jersey and Edinburgh.

How to get to Oxford from London's St. Pancras International Station by express coach

The quickest way to Oxford and Headington is by express coach from London.

1.Take the London Underground using either the Circle or Metropolitan line west to Baker Street station, which is next to Madame Tussauds exhibition centre. Its only four stops on the line, so allow 20 mins to Baker Street.

At the Baker Street Tube Station:- for X90 express buses to Oxford.

 Walk from Baker Street to the Gloucester Place bus stop outside the Bickenhall Hotel  (see bus stop Q on map), which is only ten minutes walk from Baker Street Station.

 Expect to wait at most 10 to 15 mins for buses to Oxford between 9AM and 6PM. At other times there is a bus every half hour throughout the night.

The journey time to the heart of Oxford can take 1 hr 40 mins at rush hour, but on the way into Oxford the bus stops at Thornhill Park and Ride, Headington Shops for Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, Gipsy Lane for  Oxford Brookes University before entering the historic heart of the city, where it will stop at Queens Lane and Carfax before ending its journey at Gloucester Green Bus Station in Central Oxford.

Allow  I hr 10 mins for the journey to Headington from Bus stop Q at Gloucester Place London.

 

How to reach Oxford via an express train to Oxford from London Paddington

At St. Pancras take the Transport for London Circle or Metropolitan line west to Paddington Station. Allow at least 30 mins for this. At Paddington catch a First Great Western Train to Oxford. At rush hour the trains can be overcrowded with commuters, so you may have to stand all the way.

Allow at least an hour and ten minutes for this service. At Oxford railway station there are buses and taxis to many parts of Oxford and the surrounding area.

 The city centre is no more than ten minutes walk from the railway station, though Oxford suburbs like North Oxford, Headington and Cowley are some forty minutes walk away.

Getting to Oxford by Plane

It is now possible to fly to Oxford's nearest airport at Kidlington.
