LIZA GODDARD AND DANIEL CASEY STAR
IN COWARD’S FINAL PLAY:
STAR QUALITY
at Oxford Playhouse
Monday 19 to Saturday 24 March
Noël Coward’s deliciously funny final play, Star Quality plays at Oxford Playhouse from Monday 19 to Saturday 24
March.
Set in 1951, Star Quality takes us behind the scenes of a new West End production. Behind the red-curtain glamour,
Coward conjures up a wickedly observant satire of talent and treachery and a gallery of unforgettable characters. A
temperamental leading lady and her director engage in a battle of egos which will make or break the production -
and possibly the rest of the cast.
Liza Goddard, one of the country’s best-loved and most recognisable stars, plays theatrical grand dame Lorraine
Barrie. Her credits for TV include Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, Take Three Girls, The Brothers and Woof. Her many
stage credits include a recent production of Alan Ayckbourn’s Communicating Doors and The Life Riley, both of which
played at the Playhouse last year. Joining her as the director determined to get his own way is Daniel Casey, best
known for his role as Sgt Gavin Troy in 7 series of Midsomer Murders. They are accompanied by an outstanding
ensemble cast which includes Lola the Dog in her professional stage debut.
Star Quality is adapted by Christopher Luscombe, whose credits as a director includes acclaimed productions of The
Madness of George III and The History Boys, and directed by Joe Harmston, whose previous productions include The
Prodigals, a massive hit at last year’s Edinburgh Festival and Verdict for The Agatha Christie Company, of which he
is Artistic Director.
A writer, actor, composer, director and singer Noël Coward is one of the most celebrated figures in the world of
theatre. His plays including Blithe Spirit, Present Laughter and Hay Fever, written with a razor sharp wit and keen
eye for satire, remain hugely popular and in almost constant production decades later, and confirmed his reputation
as the master of comedy writing.
