Life as a Literary Device
"By Vitali Vitaliev Published December Beautiful Books 2009"
A review by Nicholas Newman
Vitali Vitaliev’s latest book ‘Life as a Literary Device’ can be best described as an unconventional, sometimes
nostalgic description of his life, adventures and experiences from the closing stages of the former Soviet Empire
to the present day. His career has included being a successful professional travel writer, author and international
journalist.
This book is really a collection of Vitali’s personal notes, jottings and experiences across the globe including
meeting Clive James for the first time, his friendship with Peter Ustinov and his defection to the West. One feels
one is reading the personal diaries of a modern day cultural commentator and the author’s experiences provide a
profound and penetrating insight into many aspects of modern society and values today.
This book is a delightful experience of which Vitali can be justly proud.
Vitali Vitaliev (Виталий Витальев) is a Ukrainian-born journalist and writer who has worked in Russia, England,
Scotland, Australia and Ireland.
