AN OLYMPIC SWIMMING GRAN, A SMART GIANT AND A HIP HOP DANCING HERO OFFERS A THRILLING SEASON OF THEATRE FOR CHILDREN

Birmingham Repertory Theatre's Spring season of theatre for younger children features shows about an Olympic swimming gran, a smart giant, a bird that won't hatch and a hip hop dancing hero. Taking place on the first Saturday of the month, The REP's First Stages series offers entertaining and educational plays created especially for children from as young as two.

The REP's First Stages Spring season lands at the Library Theatre on Saturday 4 February with Watch The Birdy - a delightful play about Birdy the egg and his small forest friends who help him to hatch and prevent him from becoming an eggy breakfast!

With the 2012 London Olympics on the horizon, Great Gran's Great Games on Saturday 3 March at The Old Rep theatre tells the story of Ollie's Olympic swimming Great Gran.

On Saturday 21 April a brand new show adapted from the bestselling books by Children's Laureate, Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler (creators of The Gruffalo) comes to The Old Rep theatre. Tiddler and Other Tales is a magical collection of Julia Donaldson's most popular titles including Tiddler, The Smartest Giant in Town, A Squash and a Squeeze and many more favourites.

For parents who have very young children who are looking to embark on their very first theatre experience, then White at The Water Hall, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery from Tue 1 to Sat 5 May offers the perfect opportunity. This playful and highly visual show takes place in the sparkling world of White where everything is bright and new. But someone has to keep the world of White that way and all anyone can think about in this white world is red and yellow and green and blue.

The season ends with Hip Hope Hero from 31 May to 2 June at The Old Rep Theatre. The Hip Hope Hero knows the world's biggest secret and that is that inside everyone lurks a hero, even a super hero! This new show features South Africa's Got Talent winner, deaf hip-hop dancer Darren Rajbal, puppets, animation and music.

Tickets for The REP's First Stage shows cost £7.50 for adults and £4.50 for children. Box Office 0121 236 4455 or birmingham-rep.co.uk
